the inveterate reader

for some reason, i never officially posted this first attempt from awhile back so here you go.

those who know me, know i love books (a real bibliophile and even bibliomaniac at times...see hobrook jackson's landmark book on the subject). it appears a number of bloggers enjoy reading or maybe it's just the bloggers i like to read.
i have a number of books i'm skimming through now and a few i'm taking my sweet time in or really consuming. here are some highlights:
shape of living- one of my favorite works on christian growth written by an outstanding, lucid anglican theologian. when scholars like wolterstorff or hauerwas recommend it, you know you're in for a treat. i read this "devotionally" a few years at a retreat center in st. louis.

abba's child by brennan manning. i was finally inspired to finish this one after hearing him at a conference last weekend in lebanon, pa. it's my mother-in-law, debbie's book. i was glad to return it to her...alas, i still have a few other books from her library. (by the way, brennan is an incredible, passionate speaker and story-teller. i'm glad to have heard him!) and yes, i did name our second son in part after him as well as st. brendan (my wife just liked the name and denies this reasoning).
