sulfa drug reaction

here's an email i sent my fellow ruling elders at wpc about the above which caused me to miss the much enjoyable (if very early for me) bi-monthly breakfasts. don't know if anyone will read this unless i tell them i'm blogging but here you go:

hi brothers:

i'm sorry i couldn't make it this morning. as some of you know, i've been fighting off a sinus infection for over a week with an antibiotic-a rather potent one, bactrim (sulfa drug). well, i developed an allergic reaction, a terrible rash last night over half my body- i was in misery for awhile. (i had taken another sulfa drug last winter with no ill effects but i have several family members who are allergic to them- reactions can even occur after you finish taking it). so, i called a pharamacist and confirmed it was cool to take benadryl with this thing- so i took the higher dosage allowed (children's bottle we had, fortunately) to squelch this rash from the pit! it seemed to work but i didn't get to sleep until really late and then felt the benadryl hangover this morning-ughh.

i know some of you might be saying, "come on mcfall, toughen up, you're an elder now!" ;-) but that would be a rash thing to say (forgive me! ha).

so, i'm gonna call the doc this morning and see if he's gonna put me on something else. i had two days left of this drug and i still feel somewhat sick...explains my nausea the other day too, i'm sure.

well, hope your breakfast together was profitable and enjoyable!

for unto us a son is born (again)!

our third child, kieran shane, was born to us, last wednesday, december 15th at 7 pm. he weighed in at 7 lbs 2 oz and was 20 inches long, we think (some doubt on this fact).
mother and child are doing well at home.
now, i'm back at work after only a few days and that's what i must do now.

peace out

pre-thanksgiving fullness

hi friends and fellow bloggers:

the family and i are in maryland now visiting with the wife's family for a few days over thanksgiving. the fullness came from a fine meal at cracker barrel. it's much more enjoyable for lauren now since she doesn't work anymore (i think).
read the article in the current ct on the emerging church. interesting stuff. i'd be curious to have some more dialogue about this phenomenon.
my good friend and our pastor, dave, showed me a book by dave tomlinson called the post-evangelical which fits with brian mclaren and the emergent ilk. dallas willard wrote the foreward to the book and anything he commends i will pay attention to.

anyway, it's getting late. just wanted to get a short post it.
happy thanksgiving!

the near miss

good late evening friends and family:

tonight marks my first overnight weekend at pennshire with keystone. i will be doing an "asleep" every other weekend shift (frid and sat nights 11-7). i should get to sleep 12-6 each of those shifts but be here in the event of an emergency. i'm in a townhome with several individuals with mental illness.

i fell asleep earlier on our couch and barely woke up as lauren, my wife, had set the alarm for me and summoned me from my stupor on the couch. in my haste to get over here, i came very close to hittting a deer ("oh dear" as my almost 3 year old would say). ok, that's about it for now. i'm going to check on the one person who is still awake and get ready for some shuteye.

tomorrow, men's group-the book of numbers. should be interesting though the reading itself is not the most exciting at times.
